Considering that the number and proportion of older persons is growing faster than any other age group, the EMN debate has provided a timely opportunity to discuss the ways active ageing can be encouraged to ensure that older people remain productive members of society. Subjects discussed include the use of microfinance in the context of senior entrepreneurship and self-employment, the contribution of microfinance to the construction of a society without age discrimination, and the identification of microfinance institutions’ social performance indicators looking at elderly people as a unique target group.
